Hey All, today I decided to do a post on ideas/events for you to attend this weekend in or near Des Moines, Iowa. Why? Because it is Wednesday, you can officially begin talking about and planning your weekend. Also, I’ve just come across a few cool events for cool causes that I would love to attend but will be unable to do to attending the Healthy Living Summit in Minneapolis this weekend. I am so excited! If I was in town this weekend here is what I’d be checking out.

Yoga At The Glen- Work Out Wednesday

Yoga at the Glen

The other night I had an opportunity to try something new, well kinda! I’ve always
wanted to try yoga in the park or some sort of yoga outdoors and I finally got my chance last Friday at Yoga At The Glen.

It was beautiful night to hangout outside. The event was great complete with live music and refreshments, if you live in the area you should definitely consider checking it out on July 19th when they plan to host the event again!

The wonderful folks at Power Life Yoga put on the event along with some help from West Glen, Juice, and Whole Foods. I was excited

to get to try out one of their classes, as I hadn’t made it into their studio yet. I loved the instructor who took the lead. He was very positive, fun, encouraging and all about community, which was very welcoming.

As a fellow instructor, I’m sure coming up with the class was difficult knowing that there would be people at all different levels in their practice there, but the Power Life group did a great job of sticking to basics and providing several helpers.

Vinylux pedicure still looking great a week later!

My favorite parts of the workout were when we partnered up with experienced yogis to do handstands with a spot. We started in downward dog then lifted our left leg to a three-legged dog. The spot stayed on the right side and when the yogi was ready to kick up their right foot the spot placed their forearm between the yogi’s two legs. Then yogi squeezed the spots arms and released a leg to the mat whenever they tired.

Another fun aspect of the workout for me was that the instructor added some speed. I usually take a hot yoga class where speed isn’t highly emphasized so this was a new fun element to challenge me and my balance.

All in all it was the perfect night (despite a little wind) to get my yoga on outside with my friend Aubrey, and a bunch of new faces I hope to one-day call friends!
